The full 4 year programme has finally been confirmed and work began in May 2003 with a survey in Japan to reinforce links with collaborators and further our knowledge of natural enemies in the field. The project is funded by the Welsh Development Agency, South West of England Regional Development Agency, Environment Agency, DEFRA, Network Rail and British Waterways and was let by Cornwall County Council.

During this visit different life stages of familiar agents were observed as well as new potential agents which are more common earlier in the growing season. Work will now concentrate on collating and prioritising the more promising agents and drawing up a test plant list in order to determine their host specificity in quarantine.
